The never-ending, dreary hours of a long haul flight is but a small price to pay for some of the amazing places we get to see. Getting incurable backache, excruciating pins and needles, and the general anguish of plane food; that’s just part and parcel of travelling, right? But it doesn’t mean we have to suffer in silence. Here are 10 things that could make your next long haul flight more bearable.

1. Flight Socks

It makes all the difference to your in-flight comfort. Pack some thick socks to keep your feet warm and cosy.

2. Ear Plugs

Not only can these cancel out the noise when you’re trying to sleep but they can also keep your ears protected from the pressure changes during landing.

3. Sleeping Mask

If you have trouble sleeping on flights, bring a good quality sleeping mask. Brands such as TEMPUR are good because they can provide total darkness and a comfortable fit.

4. A Good Book

Don’t grab a last minute book at the airport; make sure you plan your long-haul reading in advance to avoid disappointment.

5. Toothbrush and Toothpaste

There’s nothing worse than the feeling of ‘furry’ teeth when you wake up. Bring your toothbrush in your hand luggage and you will feel so refreshed. If you want to save space, why not carry the Fuzzy Brush chewable toothbrush – which is ideal for flights.

6. Moisturiser

It may not seem like an essential but it’s a common problem; mile-high skin can become dry from the air pressure. Visit the IceLolly.com blog to read more about carry-on essentials and beauty must-haves.

7.  A Computer Tablet

If you want to make time pass, pack your tablet and make sure you pre-download some films before you fly so you can enjoy seeing something you really want to watch, not just the typical rom com selected by RyanAir (unless you love a rom com, that is).

8. Your Lonely Planet

Flights can be dull. Brighten up your journey with a guidebook and get planning before you even arrive at your destination.

9. Therapy Balls

Massage Balls are fantastic for flights. If you suffer severely from back pains, an in-flight massage could be your best bet. These ‘therapy balls’ are typically used for yoga but more and more people are using them at home and because they are so small and lightweight, they are perfect for self-massage whilst travelling.

10. Flight Pillow

Folding flight pillows are the best (as opposed to inflatables) as they are compact yet still have a lovely, soft consistency and feels very much like the pillows you might use at home. Definitely worth investing in!
