Over the past few years, we have spent a lot of time travelling around the world. We’ve learned plenty throughout that time and have also picked up some great tips from some of the amazing people we have met. So, we thought we would share some of those tips with you today.

We can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure you have the right insurance. If you are regular travellers, you might have an annual insurance policy, but you still need to go through it with a fine toothcomb to make sure you have cover. There are some fantastic places to visit in the world, but some are seen as more of a risk than others. You could find yourself with bank-busting medical fees if you happen to fall ill.

Do Your Research

Although you may feel like a trip into the unknown is a more exciting way to travel, you should take some time to research your destination properly. We’ve been pretty lucky on our trips away, but we have met some unfortunate souls who have been targeted by thieves and muggers. Unfortunately, if you don’t look like you know what you are doing, you will stick out like a sore thumb. Looking confident is all part of being safe when you are abroad, and you are more likely to be able to do so if you have a rough idea of the area you are staying in. Most people you meet will be friendly, but wherever you are in the world – even here in the UK – there will be people looking for an easy way to take your money.

If You Are Travelling With Family

Although we don’t have children yet, we have met plenty of wonderful families on our travels. And one thing we have learned is that if you are worried about going abroad with your kids, don’t. As long as you have done your research, it’s safe, and you and your children will have a fantastic time. One thing we would say is that they need to have things to do. When you are abroad, your kids won’t have the freedom they might enjoy back home, so plan some fun activities for them. Try looking into holiday adventures for families before you go and have an itinerary to stick to. If the kids have a great time, then so will you – and the likelihood is that they will be exhausted by the time they go to bed and give you a few hours of peace and quiet!

For When You Get Home

Finally, one tip that we find more helpful than any other. So many people go away on holiday, have an excellent time and arrive back home – and go to work the very next day. Try and give yourself a few days either side of your trip instead. You will have more time to make sure you have packed correctly, and when you return home, you will have a couple of days to re acclimatise yourself. Nothing is worse than the prospect of going back to work straight after the trip of a lifetime. So, that little buffer will help you seal those special memories, and recharge your batteries at the same time. Happy travelling!
